Five seperate accessions of materials relating to the Van Schaick and related families. The papers contain materials that relate to the family's business and land dealings. Included are deeds, leases and agreements for the sale and lease of family lands and the lease of lands by family members from other landowners. Several of the business papers from the eighteenth century contain information on the sale and purchase of slaves. Other materials include bills and reciepts, correspondence, ledgers and journals, household account journals and surveys of family lands.

Philip Livingston (January 15, 1716 – June 12, 1778) was an American merchant and statesman from New York City. He represented New York at the October 1774 First Continental Congress, where he favored imposing economic sanctions upon Great Britain as a way of pressuring the British Parliament to repeal the Intolerable Acts. He was also a delegate to the Second Continental Congress from 1775 to 1778, and signed the Declaration of Independence, thus becoming one of the Founding Fathers of the Unit...

Abraham Van Vechten, son of Teunis and Judijke (Ten Broeck); Van Vechten attended Kings College (now Columbia). He was admitted to New York Bar in 1785, and practiced law at Albany, N.Y. He was a member of the New York State Senate and Assembly, served as New York State Attorney General and attended the state constitutional convention in 1821. Gansevoort, Peter, 1749-1812
